On a humid summer morning, a long line of families stretches down a central Queensland street, each patiently waiting to purchase discounted school supplies. Among them is single mum of two, Grace Hogan. She knows the overwhelming feeling of looking at a book list, wondering how to afford the expense. For the past few years the Mount Morgan local has purchased discounted supplies from a local initiative known as School Savvy. Before discovering the initiative, Ms Hogan would lay-by items throughout the year and slowly pay them off. "Usually, it would cost you a couple of hundred dollars … here, you're getting it for next to nothing," she said. "[School supplies] like everything, have definitely been going up."
